As part of ATCO's ongoing commitment to meaningful engagement and transparent consultation with Indigenous communities, the Yellowhead Pipeline Indigenous Monitor Program creates opportunities for Indigenous participants to observe and document construction activities on Crown land along the pipeline route. The program helps ensure community perspectives, traditional knowledge, and cultural considerations are reflected throughout construction.
Participating communities may identify up to two representatives to take part in the program, including Elders, Knowledge Keepers, environmental monitors, or other community members who bring cultural insight and land-based knowledge to the monitoring process.
Monitors will meet with ATCO representatives at designated locations and be transported to active construction areas. Participants will have opportunities to observe work throughout various stages of construction along the pipeline route.
Monitors can share observations and cultural considerations directly with the project team. They may also provide updates back to their communities, helping support transparency and ongoing communication throughout the project lifecycle.
